Importance of Public Participation
The City of Garland recognizes public participation and comment as essential to the planning process. In order to effectively plan for the city's future, stakeholders from across Garland must participate in Envision Garland. Residents, business owners, property owners, community organizations, and other stakeholders all have an interest in the future of Garland and are invited to participate in the various opportunities for public input.
Opportunities for Public Participation
There are many opportunities to participate in Envision Garland. Because schedules and interests vary from person to person, a variety of methods are used so that stakeholders can have their voices heard. One can complete a survey, attend a workshop or meeting, read about the latest happenings online or in print, or speak at a public hearing.
Envision Garland kicked off with a citywide opinion survey, which was included in the February and April editions of the Garland City Press. The deadline for returning surveys (April 30, 2008) has now passed. For results of the survey, download the report.
On June 21, the City of Garland hosted a Community Visioning Workshop and Open House. The workshop was a forum where residents, property owners, and community leaders gathered together to share thoughts and ideas on the Garland's future. For more information on the workshop and open house, read the Results Report. Note: Large file size.
This series of "Growing the Vision" workshops were held in Fall 2008. These workshops built on previous public input and began to show how the vision can be applied to the city and its neighborhoods. More information on these workshops can be found here.
Additional public participation opportunities and meetings are listed on the Schedule page.
